Anointed and Chased Down

Ahh, it feels good to write here again.  It is with a message and a subject that God has been stirring in my heart for a while.... King David.  Right now I just can't seem to get enough of learning about him.  Anointed at the age of what some think to be 10 or 12 and yet not to become a king on the throne for 7 more years.  And what did the poor guy do for those 7 years?  He tended the same sheep he had ,
and he played harp for a crazy king that was always trying to  kill him.  David was anointed that whole time.  Anointed to be king, yet stepped in the sheep pens every day, subjected himself to possible murder more than once and yet held on to his anointing.  He even went as far as and realizing others anointing, even if they were trying to kill him.  I think if I were in his exact position today, I'd go crawl in a hole and wait for crazy king Saul to die, or try to take him on myself.  Why wait to take the throne?  After all, I was already anointed for the position!
David could've spent every waking minute crying out to God in a poor me kind of way, and many would've sympathized with him and agreed with his moaning and outpouring.  David even runs into enemy territory to escape King Saul's attempts to kill him.  But, Psalm 34:1-2 finds him lifting up the name of God, bending his knee before him and lifting up a sacrifice of praise.  Even in the midst of the hardest times of David's life, David lifts the name of God higher than his own.  Makes you question, how David did it!  How did he constantly run from his enemy and not feel like God had deserted him?  How did he step into the sheep pens and not question his anointing?  He made God first.  He lifted Him higher than himself, he reminded himself constantly that God was on his side, and he was anointed for something more than running and sheep herding.  Our days and moments, seasons and situations can feel a lot like David's.  Constantly on the go before the enemy pins us to a wall.  Caring for  kids, husbands, dogs and the neighbors before caring for ourselves.  Feeling under loved, under attack and under cared for.  Getting sucked into lies that we need to be thinner, taller, prettier, better.... always more, never enough.... or maybe too much so we sit down and shut up way too much.  But, here's some truth- you too, like David have been anointed.  Jesus poured His blood out on the cross and said "I choose you, you are my anointed one.  The one I choose, love and cherish".  Don't get lost today in the running or the seemingly small tending of the sheep.  Don't get so caught up in it all that you lift yourself higher than the God who created you and called you. David was faithful in the tending of the sheep, he was faithful not to kill Saul and take the throne before his time.  And in it all there were many lessons on becoming the next great king.  Wherever your sheep pens are today, serve there, knowing you are anointed to be there.  There are people watching your shepherding, your leading , your example.  When things get hard, come on bended knee and offer the sacrifice of praise, raising the God who created you higher than yourself.
